Dozens of shluchim and Chabad House workers gathered this week for a special seminar run by the Chabad Youth Organization on the subject of “Mivtza Mezuzah and Marketing Sifrei Torah, Tefillin, and Mezuzos.” The seminar took place at the headquarters of the Chabad Youth Organization in Kfar Chabad. It was run by the Branches Department, which is headed by Rabbi Naftali Lipsker. During the seminar, the shluchim learned the halachic and commercial aspects of selling mezuzos and tefillin.

The seminar began with a dvar Torah given by Rabbi Shmuel Raskin, a new shliach in Holon, who spoke about the importance of Mivtza Mezuzah and Tefillin.

The first session was emceed by shliach Rabbi Yossi Beitsch, and it dealt with the subjects of parchment and writing. Guest speaker Rabbi Shmuel Granatstein, director of the Union of Sofrim in Israel, spoke about how to purchase sifrei Torah, tefillin, and mezuzos and the various related issues, such as the sofer, checking, and the level of kashrus.

After lunch, there was a second session on the subject of how to run the mivtza. This included a panel with shluchim and experts. There was an open panel, a presentation on sofrus and the Chabad standards, and marketing.

This session was emceed by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Kramer and it was followed by a symposium with Rabbi Chaim Sholom Segal of Afula, Rabbi Schneur Halperin of the Hermon, and Rabbi Shimon Weiner of Yehud. Rabbi Menachem Neuman of Even Yehuda.
