The manifestation of the redemption in this world is of utmost importance. In the spiritual realms, the redemption already exists. This, however, is not sufficient for us and it is necessary that the redemption be brought down to our material world. The ultimate celebration of Simchat Torah will come in the Era of the Redemption. The coming of this Era will be hastened by taking on good resolutions to increase one's service of Torah and mitzvot.(The Rebbe, the night following Simchat Torah, 5752) (L'Chaim) |
Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Lubavitch once said that Moshiach will delight in the company of unscholarly, self-sacrificing Jews. A unique chamber will be set aside for them, and they will be envied by the greatest of intellectuals.(Igrot Kodesh of the Previous Rebbe) (L'Chaim) |
"O behold our affliction and wage our battle; redeem us speedily for the sake of Your Name, for You G-d are the mighty redeemer. Blessed are You L-rd, Redeemer of Israel.(From the Amida prayer said three times daily) (L'Chaim) |
Giving birth to children shares a connection with the ultimate redemption because Moshiach will not come until all the Jewish souls will descend and will be born within this material world.(The Rebbe, 22 Marcheshvan, 5751) (L'Chaim) |
In the days of Moshiach there will be a stupendous revelation of Divinity. For G-d, who is known as "the Tzadik of the world," this revelation will be a kind of "teshuva" (repentance) -- for having withheld this light from His people throughout all the years of exile.(Or HaTorah) (L'Chaim) |
The numerical value of the Hebrew word "shaliach" (emissary) totals 348; add ten, corresponding to the 10 faculties of the soul, and the total is 358, the value of the word "Moshiach." Every Jew is G-d's shaliach and has the task of building a home for G-d in the world. This mission will reach perfection in the Messianic Era... When the shaliach actually harnesses the 10 faculties of his soul toward the fulfillment of his task, he brings the world closer to the Messianic Era which is the ultimate goal of his mission.(Sefer HaSichot, 5748) (L'Chaim) |
If the Jewish people are found worthy as a result of their teshuva and good deeds, and have completely separated the good from the evil in the universe so that all the holy sparks that had fallen amongst the kelipot have been extricated, then the Redemption will come before "the time of the end," of which the angel speaks to Daniel(Shaarei Ora of the Mitteler Rebbe) (L'Chaim) |
The last day of Passover is celebrated with a festive meal called Moshiach's seuda, initiated by the Baal Shem Tov. The last day of Passover is the conclusion of that which began on the first night of Passover. The first night of Passover commemorates our redemption from Egypt. It was the first redemption, carried out through Moses, who was the first redeemer. The last day of Passover commemorates the final redemption, when G-d will redeem us from the last exile through Moshiach, who is the final redeemer. The first day of Passover is Moses' festival; the last day of Passover is Moshiach's festival."(The Tzemach Tzedek) (L'Chaim) |
We are commanded to await Moshiach just as a person anxiously awaits an inevitable event. This idea is affirmed by the verse in Isaiah, "The grass dries out, and the blossoms wither, but the word of our L-rd is eternal."(The Chofetz Chaim on Awaiting Moshiach) (L'Chaim) |
Our celebration of the Hasmoneans' rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem speeds the coming of Moshiach and then, at the time of the Ultimate Redemption, we will dedicate the Third and eternal Holy Temple.(The Rebbe, 25 Kislev, 5752) (L'Chaim) |
Our Sages associate the number eight -- the number of candles lit for Chanuka -- with the Messianic age. In that era, we will kindle the Menora in the Holy Temple in a manner which will never be nullified. Thus, the miracle of Chanuka -- a miracle of eight days -- contains the potential of the era when the world will be elevated to its ultimate level of perfection in the Messianic age.(The Rebbe, 2 Tevet, 5750) (L'CHAIM) |
From a mystical dimension, the month of Tevet relates to the Era of the Redemption. Our Sages describe Tevet as "the month when the soul derives pleasure from the body." Chasidic thought explains that in Tevet, G-d's essence derives pleasure from the service of the Jewish people within the realm of physical reality. This is the level of service which in a full sense will be realized in the Era of the Redemption, at which time, "the soul will derive vitality from the body." (L'Chaim)(The Rebbe, 10 Tevet, 5752) |
Happy is he who does not tire of awaiting redemption and who makes certain that he and his children increase their Torah learning and their observance of the precepts so they will not be ashamed when Moshiach comes.(The Chofetz Chaim on Awaiting Moshiach) (L'Chaim) |
The ultimate perfection of the days of Moshiach is a kind of birth --a revelation of the light of G-d within the deepest recesses of a man's heart.(Torah Or of Rabbi Shneur Zalman, Va'eira, p. 55a) (L'Chaim) |
Redemption is not an event that happens at the end of our life on earth; it is a cumulative process that begins at the outset of our lives, and every act of goodness brings us one step closer to completing the process. Redemption means an end to darkness and confusion; it means a time of harmony.(Toward a Meaningful Life adapted by Simon Jacobson from the Rebbe's teachings) (L'Chaim) |
A person who can find good in everyone is in the category of Moshiach... Moshiach will come to the defense of all of Israel, even the wicked. We now stand at an especially propitious time, for we have recently witnessed many miracles and great wonders around the world, and the tzadikim of our generation have given testimony that we are on the threshold of the Redemption.(Rabbi Pinchas Shapiro of Koretz) (L'Chaim) |
At the present time, when the world trembles, when all the world shudders with the birth-pangs of Moshiach, for G-d has set fire to the walls of the Exile... it is the duty of every Jew, man and woman, old and young, to ask themselves: What have I done and what am I doing to alleviate the birth-pangs of Moshiach, and to merit the total Redemption which will come through our righteous Moshiach?(Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn, the Previous Rebbe) (L'Chaim) |
The righteous women who left Egypt were so confident that G-d would perform miracles for the Jewish people that they took tambourines with them into the desert. So, too, with the final Redemption. The righteous women must, and certainly do trust so completely in the immediate Redemption, that they will begin immediately - in these last moments of exile - to play music and dance for the coming of the complete Redemption.(The Rebbe) (L'Chaim) |
The mitzvot will be annulled in the future time (Talmud Tractate Nida folio 61b) This means that the mitzvot in their present form will be of no account relative to the revelations of the future. The degree of Divine energy elicited by the performance of a mitzva today is infinitely inferior to the degree of Divine energy that will be elicited by the performance of a mitzva in the future.(The Rebbe Rashab, Rabbi Sholom Dovber of Lubavitch) (L'CHAIM) |
We must anticipate that G-d will hasten the redemption by some strategy or other, whether by virtue of the tremendous anguish we have suffered, or by some other means. Perhaps this is the hidden meaning of "...in its time, I will hasten it": G-d will hasten the period of "in its time" itself.(The Chofetz Chaim on Awaiting Redemption) (L'CHAIM) |
