The Baal Shem Tov established a custom to eat a third meal on the last day of Passover. This meal is known as "Moshiach's Meal," for on this day Moshiach's radiance is revealed. This revelation foreshadows the Redemption.

It takes place specifically on the last day of Passover, for this is a day which is added only in the Diaspora. The essence of the added day is that in the Diaspora and in the time of exile, the Jewish people transform 24 mundane hours into a day of holiness. On the last day of Passover this means transforming them into a festival of freedom and redemption. And this process of transformation is the essence of the imminent Redemption - converting the very exile itself into redemption, so that G-dliness is revealed even at the very lowest levels of creation.(Likutei Sichot)

The Talmud (Nida 61b) states that the mitzvot will be anulled in future time. This means that the mitzvot in their present form will be of no account relative to the revelations of the future. The degree of Divine energy elicited by the performance of a mitzva today is infinitely inferior to the degree of Divine energy that will be elicited by the performance of a mitzva in the future.(Hemshech 5672, vol. (Psalm 92:3) The Maharal of Prague explains this verse from Psalms to mean that recounting G-d's benevolence in the "morning" of the Redemption comes about through belief in G-d and G-d's Redemption through Moshiach during the nights of exile.

On an obvious level, a fast day is undesirable. The suffering endured on a fast is surely not pleasurable, nor appreciated. Nevertheless, the inner dimension of a fast is good.

This concept is openly expressed in regard to the 17th of Tamuz. On an obvious level, it is associated with negative factors, the breaching of the wall of Jerusalem which led to the destruction of the Holy Temple. Nevertheless, its inner, essential quality is good.

This is even alluded to in the date itself, for 17 is numerically equivalent to the word "tov." This points to the intent of the exile, that it should lead the Jews to the Era of the Redemption.(The Rebbe, 17 Tamuz, 5751-1991)
