"Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai said, "Everywhere the Jews were exiled, the Divine Presence was with them: they were exiled to Bavel and the Divine Presence was with them...'"

This shows that even within the lowest level of existence -- that of exile -- the Divine Presence is nevertheless manifest.(The Rebbe, 5751-1991)

All who died with a particular defect will be resurrected with it. One who died old will be resurrected old, with thin flesh, lest people not recognize him. Then G-d will heal the resurrected, as it is written, "Then shall the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf be unstopped. Then shall the lame man leap like a deer..." (Isaiah 35:5-6)(Rav Hai Gaon)

If the redemption will come because of Israel's merit, the matter will be wondrous in degree, and the redeemer of Israel will be revealed from heaven with signs and wonders...

However, if the redemption will come at the end of the prescribed period of exile and Israel will not deserve it, it will be in another manner, about which it is said that the redeemer will come "lowly and riding on a donkey."(Ohr HaChaim)

The nations will think, "What tribute shall we give this king [Moshiach]? Money, fine fabrics, and trinkets mean nothing to him. Therefore, let us give him his people!"

As it says, "They shall bring all your brethren out of all the nations as an offering to the L-rd" (Isaiah 66:20).

Every nation will proceed according to its wealth: some will bring the Jews on horses, in chariots, on mules, in carriages, or on fleet camels. Others shall bring your sons in their arms (ibid. 49:22). Others will put them on ships...(Rav Hai Gaon)

This is the actual time of the "footsteps of Moshiach."

It is therefore imperative for every Jew to seek his fellow's welfare -- whether old or young -- to inspire the other to return, so that he will not fall out -- G-d forbid -- of the community of Israel who will shortly be privileged, with G-d's help, to experience complete redemption.(The Previous Rebbe)

"Do not be amazed by the fact that Moshiach will be one of those who arise in the Resurrection [of the Dead]. For this possibility was already considered by our Sages in Gemara Sanhedrin: Said Rav Asi, 'If he is among the living he is like Rabbeinu HaKadosh. If he is among the dead, he is like Daniel Ish Chamudot.'"(Yeshuot Meshicho p. 104)

A well-known debate in the Talmud considers whether study is the ultimate value or whether action is greater.

It is explained in the teachings of Chasidut that even though the Talmud there concludes that in the present era study is superior, in future time the law will determine that action is superior.

The fact that we are now standing on the threshold of the Redemption thus adds weight to the teaching of the Sages, "What matters most is practice."(The Rebbe)

In the days of Moshiach, "The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid... "Ramban takes this verse literally and documents his stand profusely. Yet he maintains that such coexistence will not necessitate great changes in creation, because wild animals were originally peaceful creatures, becoming predatory only after Adam's sin.

Chanuka, being a holiday of eight days, is associated with the Redemption. For, whereas seven alludes to what is timebound, eight is always an allusion to eternity, to what is timeless.

In addition, our Sages have said, "Even if all the other festivals will be annulled Chanuka and Purim will not be annulled. For Chanuka and Purim were given to Israel by the merit of their own deeds.(Book of Our Heritage)

"L-rd, the portion of my heritage, hasten to my aid, loosen the cords of my sackcloth and gird me with joy; light my darkness, and with Your light illuminate the night of Redemption for which I long, for You are my light."(From the Selichot prayers on the Tenth of Tevet)

During the time of exile, Yosef (representing the heavens, plant life, study) is higher, but in the Messianic Age, the superiority of Yehuda (the earth, inanimate objects, action) will be revealed. Therefore, in view of our proximity to the redemption, we must add even more in concrete action.(The Rebbe, 5 Tevet, 5751)

I believe with complete faith in the coming of Moshiach. Though he tarry, nonetheless I await him every day, that he will come. I believe with complete faith that there will be a resurrection of the dead at the time when it will be the will of the Creator, blessed be His name and exalted be His remembrance forever and ever.(Maimonides' Twelfth and Thirteenth Principles of Faith)

It is well known that the Messianic Era, and especially the time of the Resurrection of the Dead, is the fulfillment and culmination of the creation of the world, for which purpose it was originally created.(Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi in Tanya)

At the present time, when the world trembles, when all the world shudders with the birth-pangs of Moshiach... it is the duty of every Jew, man and woman, old and young, to ask themselves: What have I done and what am I doing to alleviate the birth-pangs of Moshiach, and to merit the total redemption which will come through our Righteous Moshiach?(From a letter of Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn)

Rabban Gamliel lectured: "In the future [Redemption] the trees will bring forth fruit every day, for it is said 'And it shall produce boughs, and bear fruit' (Ezek. 17:23) i.e., just as boughs are produced every day so also will fruit be brought forth every day."(Talmud Shabbat 30b)

The righteous women who left Egypt were so confident that G-d would perform miracles, that they took tambourines into the desert. So, too, with the final Redemption, the righteous women must -- and certainly do -- trust so completely in the imminent Redemption, that they will begin immediately in the last moments of exile, to play music and dance for the Redemption.(The Rebbe, 13 Shvat, 5752-1992)

The appointment of Melech HaMoshiach has in reality already occurred, as we say in the verse (Psalms 89:21), "I have found My servant David; I have anointed him with My holy oil." All that is needed is for the people to accept him as king and for the actualization of the total unity between the king and the people -- with the complete and total redemption.(The Rebbe, 25 Shevat, 5751-1991)

In what respect is Purim greater than all the other festivals? All the festivals are sanctified by Israel, and in the future when the world will be completely redeemed -- and all its days will be like Shabbat... the light of Purim, which is greater than the light of other festivals, will shed light even in the Messianic age.(Book of Our Heritage)

One should look forward to the Redemption because that era will bring about the fulfillment of the will of G-d -- His intent (underlying the entire creation) of having a "dwelling place among the lower beings."

Looking forward to the Redemption should not be motivated by personal considerations, such as a desire to be extricated from a difficulty in one's material or spiritual life.(The Rebbe, 5713-1953)
